In July 1979, on the basis of the 1st clinic, the Department of Hospital Surgery was organized with the course of military field surgery (VFC) of the Tashkent State Medical Institute and was headed by Professor Karimov Sh.I.

At the initial stage, on the basis of the department to provide qualified surgical care to the population, 4 specialized clinical departments were created (the base was located in the current 8 building 2 of the clinic of the Tashkent Medical Academy). In September 1981, the Department of Hospital Surgery (head of the department Karimov Sh.I.) was renamed the Department of Surgical Diseases No. 3. In 1990, in connection with the division of the Tashkent State Medical Institute into the First and Second Tashkent State Medical Institute, the department was again reorganized and became be called the department of faculty and hospital surgery of the Second Tashkent State Medical Institute.
In 1998, as a result of merging with the departments of pediatric surgery and urology, the department of hospital and faculty surgery was organized with a course of urology and pediatric surgery, which continued to be headed by academician Karimov Sh.I. After 3 years, the course of urology and pediatric surgery were again singled out as separate departments.
After the establishment of the Tashkent Medical Academy in 2005, the department of faculty and hospital surgery was preserved in its original form and became part of the medical faculty of TMA. From the day the department was founded, students of the 4th and 5th courses have been trained on its basis. So, in the 4th year, classes are conducted on the subject of “faculty surgery”, and in the 5th year – in “hospital surgery”.

At the department from 1979 to 1991, 6th year students underwent subordination in surgery. Along with the scientific work of the staff, the department actively carried out research work with students. Responsible for SSS at the department in different years were associate professors Rasuleva M.V., Zimin G.A., Ismailova D.A., Imamov A.A. Thanks to their hard work, students studying at the department have repeatedly been winners of the republican Olympiads, prize-winners of student conferences. Most of these students subsequently became members of the department and continued research work.
Of particular importance in the life of the department was research work, which was carried out in many priority areas of planned and urgent surgery: surgery of the abdominal aorta and great vessels; surgical treatment of chronic brain failure; surgical treatment of diseases of the chest, lungs and pleura; hepatobiliary, abdominal surgery. To date, 22 doctoral and 75 master’s theses have been defended at the department. Currently, 4 doctoral and 10 master’s theses are being carried out at the department. The staff of the department has published more than 1500 scientific articles and abstracts, they are the authors of more than 25 monographs, they have received more than 150 copyright certificates and patents.
